Did you know that according to the World Health Organisation1 billion people are living with a disability globally?

Did you know that two thirds of these people don’t seek any sort of help due to stigma?

These figures help remind us that there a lot of people we will meet every day who face
barriers we do not see or experience.

Help @South Steyne Medical Centre start a conversation around #hiddendisabilities by sharing this post and learning more about the International Day of People with Disabilities.

If you would like to learn more about different types of disabilities please have a chat with your doctor by booking here or visit the

It’s a red ribbon. This symbolises solidarity with those affected by HIV globally.

Join as at South Steyne Medical Centre as we help to raise awareness and
reduce stigma around HIV.

What are some ways we can all help those with HIV and help to prevent this virus?

1. Learn about how HIV is transmitted.

2. Understand how to test for HIV.

3. Learn about how HIV is treated and about how we can support those who are HIV positive.

Your doctor is able to discuss all of the above with you and if you have any questions that you
would like them to answer please book an appointment here.

Curious about how to stay safe this summer? Check below!

We here at South Steyne Medical Centre love getting in the sun, but it’s important to stay safe!

The Cancer Council Australia is running a fantastic initiative this week, National Skin Cancer Action Week. So as part of that we thought we would share some good tips for being sun safe.

Here are the best ways to keep safe in the sun this summer:

SLIP on some sun-protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible.

SLOP on broad spectrum, water resistant SPF30 (or higher) sunscreen. Put it on 20 minutes before you go outdoors and every two hours afterwards. Sunscreen should never be used to extend the time you spend in the sun.

SLAP on a hat – broad brim or legionnaire style to protect your face, head, neck and ears.

SEEK shade.

SLIDE on some sunglasses – make sure they meet Australian Standards.
