South Steyne Medical Centre is a privately owned and operated practice. Our primary focus is providing premium health care to our patients and ensuring your health needs are well catered for. As we are a privately owned practice, Doctors providing services from South Steyne Medical Centre do charge privately for face-to-face consultations as well as for telehealth and video telehealth appointments, although there are some services that are bulk billed (see below). The AMA fee structure forms the basis of our billing policy.

The applicable consultation fee and the total time taken for the consult will reflect the complexity of your condition, the time taken to consult with you and your Doctor’s estimate of the time to be taken to complete referrals, follow-up bookings, and related administration. 

When applicable, your consultation will attract a rebate from Medicare if you are an eligible Medicare Card holder. However, this will not cover the total cost of your consultation.

We require full payment of fees on the day of consultation. Fees must be paid by credit card or EFTPOS. We will we require your credit card details before your consultation can proceed. Our customers will incur merchant fees on all card transactions. These are the fees imposed by credit card companies, banks and payment platforms and are paid to them. Please note that These fees do not generate any revenue for South Steyne Medical Centre.

If you make your booking through the HotDoc booking platform, you are able to provide your credit card information through a secure method before you come to the practice. This enables our Reception team to collect the payment after you have seen your doctor and you will not need to wait to pay your bill.  If you have not booked through the HotDoc booking platform or have not provided your credit card information at the time you arrive at the practice, then you will need to return to Reception to pay your bill before you leave the centre.

We do accept walk-in patients, but all walk-in patients will be privately billed at the applicable rate. While we do try to see walk-in patients as quickly as possible, patients with an appointment are seen first and we cannot guarantee a short wait-time for walk-in patients. 

Doctors providing services from South Steyne Medical Centre do bulk bill the following patients provided they are eligible Medicare Card holders:

a) Childhood immunisations that are included in the National Immunisation Program

b) Patients attending for Chronic Disease Care Plans and Government funded health assessments.  Unless advised at the time of testing/screening, testing and screening associated with Chronic Disease Care Plans and Government funded health assessments will be bulk-billed.

c) Your treating Doctor or health care provider expressly agrees that you will be bulk billed for the consultation you are attending where they are satisfied there is a bona fide financial need.

Otherwise, all patients, (including children under 16 years of age and Concession Card Holders) will be privately charged. 

If you have a valid Medicare card, we can claim your Medicare rebate for you electronically when you pay your account. Our practice is equipped with Medicare Easyclaim which gives you the choice of having your Medicare claiming done on the spot with the Medicare rebate deposited into your bank account using an EFTPOS card.

Pre-employment medical assessments, driver medicals, and other medical assessments, are all billed privately and generally do not attract a rebate from Medicare. The applicable private fee will be advised by your Doctor and will reflect the nature of the medical assessment, the complexity of the assessment and the time taken to complete the assessment as well as to complete any applicable documentation. 

All new WorkCover patients will be charged privately for their first consultation at the rate applicable for the relevant consultation, inclusive of fees payable for a Certificate of Capacity, all as determined by reference to the most recent State Insurance Regulatory Authority Payment Classification System Information – Professional Medical Services. You must have a valid case number for subsequent WorkCover consultations otherwise you will be charged privately at the applicable rate. Private fees for WorkCover patients vary depending on consultation length, complexity and applicable WorkCover item numbers. 

We are unable to offer private health rebates for GP consultations. We can provide you with a tax invoice so that you have the option of claiming through any insurance you might have after your consultation.
